Planning Services - Potential Restoration of Listed Doo-cot at Houstoun House, Uphall - Public Consultation Survey

Houstoun House, at the west end of Uphall, is listed for its special architectural and historical importance. Its mature woodland and landscaped grounds are within the Uphall Conservation Area. West Lothian Council carried out a Conservation Area Appraisal in 2018/19 and one of the heritage features identified was that the 17th century Doo-Cot, located near the hotel entrance car park, was in a very poor condition and was deteriorating.

The Council have an opportunity to carry out a survey of the building and prepare a specification for repairs, restoration and interpretation alongside the owner, MacDonald Hotels.

Broxburn & Uphall Town Management Group, who undertake various improvement works in both communities, would like to hear local Uphall residents’ views on whether their funding, together with the owner, should help contribute towards the survey and restoration of this local heritage feature.

If you have any questions or require further information please do not hesitate to contact us at the email above.

Please note the Deadline Date for responses to the consultation is Friday 4th September 2020.

Thank you.
